FAQs
1. Why can’t kids have their teeth whitened?
Children who do not have all of their adult teeth risk having mismatched colored teeth if not all of their teeth are present. So it is best advised to wait until all of the adult teeth are in before bleaching. Also less mature teeth have thinner enamel and dentin (the layer under the enamel) so the nerve is closer to the surface which can cause more sensitivity. Too much bleaching of immature teeth can actually permanently damage teeth.
2. But my kid’s teeth are very yellow. What do I do?
The best thing to do is have a dentist look at your child’s teeth. It could simply be superficial staining from juice and soda. These stains are easily polished off by the hygienist. But it could also be a congenital defect of the enamel. So it’s best to have it checked out by a dentist.
3. I have tried white strips in the past and they made my teeth super sensitive. Do you have something that would work for me?
Yes! Try any of our “sensitive” kits or strips. They have a milder formula that produces less acid and work over several hours. Also use the remineralizing gel after each session. Fluoride toothpaste for sensitivity can also be applied to the teeth before and after each treatment to ward off sensitivity. Alternating days can also prevent sensitivity. Make sure you do not have receding gums, periodontitis or exposed roots. All of these conditions will cause sensitivity.
4. How do I make my results last?
Try to avoid dark wine, sodas and juices. Make sure to brush twice a day, floss once a day and see your dentist regularly for cleanings. Touch up teeth either once a month with one or two treatments or touch up every six months or as needed. Quit smoking.
5. When I whiten my teeth, I have white spots.
White spots can appear when teeth are dehydrated. Usually they go away after the tooth is rehydrated with saliva. If you have white spots from fluorosis, hypocalcification or braces, these spots can be treated in a dentist office. We will be offering g in office treatment for these conditions starting summer of 2022.
